A man is facing several charges including DUI manslaughter in a traffic crash that killed a woman early Sunday in St. Petersburg.

According to police, Doneisha Bowens, 22, was killed in the two-car crash happened at 5th Avenue South and 34th Street just before 4 a.m.

Police said Bowens was a passenger in a 2001 4-door Toyota sedan driven by Andrew Mitchell.

The Toyota was northbound on 34th Street South when a westbound 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck on 5th Avenue South ran a red light and collided with the passenger side of the Toyota, police said.

The 49-year-old man driving the Chevrolet, Anthony Scott Brown, ran from the scene after the crash, police said.

Brown was apprehended a short distance away by an officer after a brief struggle. Brown was also transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg, where he was treated and released into police custody.

Mitchell and Bowens were both transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg. Mitchell is being treated for his injuries. Bowens was pronounced dead.

Brown is currently charged with DUI manslaughter, driving while license suspended or revoked with death involved, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, vehicular homicide and battery on a law enforcement officer.
