A Bradenton sweet spot has been plagued with burglaries.

SweetBerries Frozen Custard & Eatery has been broken into five times, two of which were during Memorial Day weekend.

During business hours, customers line up for lunch to get their fresh sandwiches and homemade frozen custard.

“We love it," customer Lilly Oliver said as she enjoyed a chicken salad and fresh fruit plate. "It's No. 1 in our book.”

Unfortunately, its popularity may be what’s attracting burglars.

“This is our fifth robbery here in Bradenton,” owner Mike Osmond said.

Security camera video shows what Osmond believes to be the same man breaking in both Friday and Sunday night. Osmond said Friday night, a thief broke through the window in the men's room.

“He broke through this window, which we have since boarded up,” Osmond said.

Osmond said Sunday night the thief came back and broke through the window in the ladies' room.

“He did some damage to the drywall,” Osmond said.

The surveillance video shows the thief entering Osmond’s office and turning on the lights.

“He has a scarf over his face -- so he obviously knows there is a camera in my office," Osmond said.

The video shows the suspect taking a crowbar to the restaurant's safe and trying to pry it from the floor.

“He works on the safe for at least a good half an hour (to) 45 minutes," Osmond said.

In the end, the suspect took the entire safe with him and left.

“He got away with cash," Osmond said. "He got away with what we had in the safe, which is about $3,000.”

Osmond does not want his business to get broken into for a sixth time. He’s planning on getting rid of all of his glass windows and doors or at least putting up steel bars.

“It’s a sad state of affairs that you have to fortify your building against scumbags,” he said.

Along with taking more security measures, Osmond said he will no longer leave any cash in the facility overnight.

“If you’re a potential robber out there, you need to know there will not be any money left at SweetBerries,” he said.

On the upside, Osmond says he is glad no one was injured.

“I’m thankful that nobody was here -- that it wasn’t an armed robbery," he said. "I’m thankful that so far, all of our incidents have been burglaries. I have a lot of kids that work for me. I’m just thankful that everyone is safe and sound.”

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says the SweetBerries location on Manatee Avenue and 45th Street W is not in a high-crime area.
