The Bradenton City Council will hold a public hearing Wednesday night on a proposal that it take control of the city's three community redevelopment agencies.

The first of two required hearings, the meeting is at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Supporters say putting the council in charge of the CRAs would streamline efforts to remove slum and blight, according to the Bradenton Herald.

A second public hearing has been tentatively scheduled for June.

If the council approves the proposed changes, it could take effect by Jan. 1.
