Three people were killed and five seriously injured in a crash in Lecanto on Monday afternoon.

According to officials, the two-vehicle crash happened around 4:37 p.m. near West Grover Cleveland Boulevard and South Lecanto Highway.

Three adults died, and five others, including three children, were injured.

All lanes of Grover Cleveland Boulevard were shut down.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2008 Suzuki Aerio was traveling eastbound on Grover Cleveland Boulevard, west of CR-491, when it left the roadway and collided with a Toyota Prius traveling was traveling westbound on Grover Cleveland Boulevard.

Kayla Wood, 22, of Inverness and Tydree Najee Barrow, 22, of Ocala, in the Suzuki, died at the scene. A 3-year-old girl was seriously injured.

In the Prius, 78-year-old Carmencita Chastin, of Homosassa, was transported to the hospital where she later died. Four other people sustained serious injuries, including a 13 and 15-year-old girl.
