All the rain that has been falling is hurting some businesses in Citrus County. We're in the heart of scallop season and usually business is booming, but all the rain lately has put a damper on things.

"It has really put a hinder on it," said Captain Michael Birdsong. "It really has, but you can't fight the weather."

Captain Birdsong says scallop charters have been down for the past two weeks thanks to the rain. He says it's taking a bite out of his wallet.

"Sure it does," he says. "Hurts all of us you know, not only me. It goes to the motels, to the gas stations, the restaurants."

Business around Old Homosassa hasn't washed away completely, but it's not as busy as it usually is.

Chris Foulk works at MacRae's bait house. He says it was so slow last weekend some employees stayed home.

"We still see our regular business but not the amount of out-of-towners and stuff that we normally get," he said. "Definitely not crazy, not scallop season as you imagine it."

Residents are ready for the sun to come out and stay out, so the scalloping can get cranked up again.

"This is the sunshine state after all," Foulk said.
