A Fourth of July tragedy left a 9-year-old dead in Manatee County.

Ginbilo Jordan Yarn was riding his bike in his Rubonia neighborhood when he was struck by a car on the corner of 72nd Street Court East and 14th Avenue East.

Now the community is mourning his loss.

Fifteen-year-old friend Omar Olvera witnessed the accident.

“I ran to the ditch in the side of the road. And that’s when I saw a car like fly by like 60 to 80 miles-per-hour. And then I turned and I saw. Ginbilo he was laying on the ground,” she said.

Olvera’s brother Glenn Olvera said the car didn’t even stop.

“I saw a grey car fly by,” he said.

He said he got in his car and chased the driver down.

“I was like why didn’t you stop? She was like I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he said.

Olvera told the driver what she had done.

“She had told me she hit something and she didn’t know what. I was like you just hit a little boy,” he said.

Olvera’s 6-year-old son, also named Glenn, is now without his playmate.

“He was one of my best friends,” said 6-year-old Olvera.

A best friend now remembered with a memorial on the corner where he was killed.

“I miss him,” he said.

Charges are pending against the driver.

Meanwhile, neighbors say the area is unsafe for kids because there are no sidewalks or speed bumps. They’ve taken their complaints to Manatee County commissioners but so far nothing has been done.
