A Hillsborough County mother says her fight for justice isn’t over, after her son’s killer was released from prison decades ahead of schedule.

Cheryl Perry’s son Albert was murdered at the age of 19 by Ronald Pressley, Jr. He was sentenced and scheduled to be released from prison in 2032.

However, it turns out Pressley’s original sentence was a mistake, according to the state. A new judge released him in June after time served.

But Pressley says she wasn’t notified about the mistake until after her son’s killer was released.

“He’s out. There’s nothing I can do about it. But I’m still going to fight for my child,” said Perry.

Perry and her son Corey visited lawyers at the State Attorney’s Office in Tampa on Monday to learn more about the legal error.

Perry says she is investigating whether she wants to sue the state for the error.

The family says they have letters out to lawmakers hoping to draw more attention to the issue.

They say lawyers admitted to the original mistake, but say they are merely following the law.

The State Attorney’s Office did not respond to a call for comment.
