Two women are recovering from injuries sustained in a July 4th celebration in Manatee County.

On Saturday night, a group was lighting off fireworks on the road in the Copperstone neighborhood in Parrish, as a crowd looked on.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffery TeMarco, 29, was shooting off a mortar type firework, when it exploded.

Detectives said TeMarco, lit a mortar and the tube fell over, causing it to explode and shoot across the street.

The mortar bounced off a garage door and hit two women, who were standing nearby.

Both women were burned on their legs and feet.

Laura Herres, 53, was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. Her family said she had surgery Monday morning.

Justine Hass 32, was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

Detectives said TeMarco was cooperative and it appears to be an accident.
