Winter Haven High School is the first school in the county to require all students to be part of a career academy.

It’s called a wall-to-wall career academy.

School superintendent Kathryn LeRoy toured the school this morning to bring attention to the concept.

Students at the school have to sign up for a special line of studies. They include finance, hospitality and tourism, information technology, health science, or engineering.

Students can change their minds during their high school careers.

"Maybe they are in hospitality and they say, 'That's not what I really want. I really want to be in finance. I really want to be in a STEM area,' and they will be able to switch,” said LeRoy.

Sophomore Brooke Dawson is on the hospitality and tourism track.

"Hotels and the amusement parks and stuff like that and attracting more tourists into Florida,” Dawson said.

The goal of the wall-to-wall approach is to make sure that every single student is so engaged in their line of study that they don’t drop out of school.
