USF student Barbara Jimenez, known as Barbie to friends and family, arrived back on U.S. soil Friday evening.

Jimenez's sister and mother were on the one hour flight from Cuba with her.

Jimenez was injured in an accident earlier this month while she was visiting family in Cuba.  The 22-year-old was in a coma for several days following the accident and did not have insurance or the funds to return home once her condition stabilized.

JET I.C.U. transported Jimenez back to Florida free of charge.

On Sunday, Mike Honeycut, co-owner of JET I.C.U, saw a news story on the situation and stepped in to help.

JET I.C.U. is a company out of Hernando County that provides international medical transport. Honeycut said the two-hour round trip flight would normally cost $15,000 to $20,000 but his company will cover the bill.

“I feel that when you have the opportunity to give back, I think you should,” Honeycut said.

A full medical staff was on board the flight and members of the crew said Barbie was in good spirits.  They said she even insisted on walking off the plane and to the stretcher on her own.

Honeycut said Barbie even had another special request.

"Talking about how good spirits she's in, she asked, the only request she had was a cheeseburger and fries from Five Guys," Honeycut said.

Upon arrival, Barbie was immediately taken by ambulance to Tampa General Hospital where she will continue treatment for her injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery and graduate from USF this spring.

Honeycut says his company makes about six flights to and from Cuba each year.
