It rained hard overnight and into early Monday afternoon in Manatee County.

6th Avenue and 26th Street in Holmes Beach was one of the locations hit the worst. There was more than six inches of water.

Cheryl Scott, who lives on 6th Avenue, said her street has never been flooded like this.

“I work two doors down. And right now I’m walking in water and with everything that is on the ground, no one really wants to walk in yucky water like that,” she said.

However, some people like 13-year-old Zachary Crouse and his friends didn’t mind the “lucky” water. He is on vacation in Holmes Beach from Virginia and they were having the time of their lives racing in kayaks down 6th Avenue and 26th Street.

“We're just having fun. We had street races down that other street its way worse on that street, we can’t really do it on this street ‘cause it’s shallower but were just having fun times,” he said.

Nancy Mills also lives here. She is trying to rent the apartment next door to hers. She said all day garbage has been washing up on her lawn.

“I found a couple of uneaten biscuits and a toilet seat in my backyard also,” she said.

With potential renters visiting from out of town tomorrow, she said the rain couldn’t have come at a worse time.

“I am hoping they won’t think this happens all the time, ‘cause I certainly have never seen it happen,” she said.

Nancy said she is lucky that there was no damage inside her house.

Overall, Manatee County got very lucky, there were no major problems from flooding.
