It rained in parts of the Bay area Sunday- heavy in some areas - and repeated rounds of showers and storms are expected over the next few days.

An upper-level trough over the Gulf of Mexico and the remnants of former Tropical Storm Erika lifting north will keep deep moisture over the region through Tuesday. This will lead to an elevated risk of prolonged heavy rainfall and flooding.

Although the remnants of Erika remain unorganized, the moisture will remain in the eastern gulf over the next several days.

A flood watch is in effected through Monday evening for Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, Polk and Manatee counties. Around 7 p.m. Sunday, a Flood Advisory was issued for northwestern Hillsborough County after more than two inches of rain fell in the area.

River flood warnings have been issued for the Withlacoochee at Trillby, Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens and Little Manatee River at Wimauma. The Withlacoochee and Cypress Creek are at minor flood stage, and the Little Manatee River is forecast to reach minor flood stage.

No school closures have been announced. The Pinellas and Polk County school districts issued statements Sunday afternoon saying schools would operate as normal Monday.

About two to four inches of rain is possible the next few days, with some locally higher amounts.

So far, Tampa has had 27.48 inches in July/August, making 2015 the second wettest July/August on record. The highest was in 1960, when 28.31 inches of rain fell. That should easily be broken before the end of the month Monday.
