After weeks of drenching rain, the Bay area finally saw a break in the weather.

As expected, the drier air moved into the region today resulting in just a few scattered showers.

Tuesday will start out with mostly sunny skies for the morning and lows in the mid 70s.

There will be a 30 percent coverage of scattered afternoon storms, with most of them drifting east of I-75 by the evening. The heaviest storms will likely end up in Polk, Eastern Hillsborough, and Eastern Manatee County.

High temperatures will top out around 90.

Moisture will return this weekend so the rain chances will eventually go back up but don’t expect anything like the previous wet-weather event.

It will be a little warmer in the afternoons with highs near 90 but a strong sea breeze each day should keep it from getting hotter.

Flooding remains a concern in some Bay area neighborhoods. Most area rivers have crested and will slowly drop over the next couple days.

A flood watch has been cancelled for Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.

Latest Updates:

6:30 p.m. The Anclote River has crested. It will start dropping by tomorrow morning and will likely drop about a foot within the next 24 hours.

5:15 p.m. A flood watch has been cancelled for Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.

4:54 p.m. Pasco County has opened the Mike Fasano Regional Hurricane Shelter. Everyone who is using shelters is being moved to the Fasano Shelter in an effort to consolidate services.  The Fasano Shelter is located at 11611 Denton Ave. in Hudson. It will be the only shelter open in Pasco County.

4:35 p.m. Brooker Creek remains above flood stage, leading to continued flooding in the Tarpon Woods subdivision, including Tarpon Woods Boulevard. The creek is expected to slowly recede if conditions remain the same, and with normal rainfall amounts, it is expected that it will be four to five days before flood waters completely subside.

2:45 p.m. All major roadways throughout the city of Tampa are now open, however a flood watch for the area remains in effect through this evening as potential rainfall could exacerbate flooding conditions in isolated areas.

2:10 p.m. State Road 54 near the intersection with Rowan Road is down to one eastbound and one westbound lane.  Rowan Road north of State Road 54 has limited travel due to flooding as well.

1:50 p.m. The Salvation Army of Florida is sending additional teams of volunteers and canteens, or kitchens on wheels, to help assist first responders and survivors after this weekend's record rainfall.

12:02 p.m. The Red Cross has opened a shelter at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 7922 State Road 52 in Hudson to accommodate people evacuated early this morning from the Oaks View Apartments. Other shelters currently open include the First Presbyterian Church in Port Richey and the Bible Based Fellowship Church in Temple Terrace.

11:30 a.m. Sandbags remain available for flood-affected Pinellas County residents at John Chesnut Sr. Park, 2200 East Lake Road in Palm Harbor, and Lealman Park, 3800 54th Ave. N. in Lealman.

11 a.m. Current road issues in Pinellas County: Portions of Tarpon Woods Blvd are still flooded this morning. Motorists with low profile vehicles should avoid the area. Please use Ridgemoor Blvd as an alternate route.

10:45 a.m. Current road issues in Hillsborough County: Gibson Ave between 56th and 58th (Shut down),  VanDyke Road east of Dale Mabry Highway (Flooded) and N. Mobley Road at Hutchinson Road (Flooded).

9:55 a.m. The west bound lane as you approach the intersection of State Road 54 and Rowan Road will be down to one lane due to rising water.  Pasco County Public Works will be setting up road blocks shortly.  Traffic will be looking at patterns and change lights as necessary at the intersection.

8:38 a.m. City of Tarpon Springs: All roads are now open or will soon be open in Tarpon Springs with the exception of South Walton Avenue between Tarpon Avenue and Lemon Street.  A large amount standing water is still present at that location.

8:32 a.m. A press conference has been set for an update on the Pasco County flooding at 11 a.m. at the EOC located at 8744 Government Drive Building A.

8:15 a.m. Hillsborough County Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control will treat two areas of southwest Hillsborough County on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., by air. Area 1 is the Big Bend Road and US Highway 41 area. The second spraying will take place near Symmes Road and US 301.

7:30 a.m. Pasco County has kept in place the evacuation order for residents in the Anclote River Area at Elfers and has ordered evacuation for Suncoast Gateway Mobile Home Park in Port Richey.

Scattered showers and storms today combined with earlier heavy rainfall totals and the highly saturated soils could produce localized flooding.

It will be warmer today with high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s.

The area of low pressure near the Georgia coast is moving northeast away from Florida.

Tonight, it will be partly cloudy with a chance of isolated showers.

Low temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s.

For Wednesday, the area of high pressure that has been south of Bay area will move back north over the central peninsula.

This will lead to a more typical summertime pattern of scattered showers and thunderstorms with the sea breezes.

Wednesday and Thursday will be partly sunny with a 40 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.
