Tropical Depression No. 11 has become Tropical Storm Joaquin.

It is no threat to our state.

It will move very slowly westward for a couple days, then move north at the end of the week when a cold front approaches the southeast.

Later this week, increasing southwesterly shear is expected to spread over the East Coast of the U.S. and western Atlantic waters due to a trough approaching from the west. As a result, a northward turn is forecast then the system is expected to merge with a frontal system approaching the East Coast.

The track and most computer models show the system staying east of the U.S.
