Administrators surprised more than a dozen students at Gibbs High School with college scholarships Friday.

Florida A&M University in Tallahassee visited the St. Petersburg school for a recruitment fair. After looking at students' grades and test scores, college administrators handed out $500,000 in scholarships.

"It's incredible," said senior Logan Caraballo, who received a $65,000 scholarship to FAMU. "I can't even think straight."

The recruitment fair is part of a new partnership between Gibbs High School and the university. Gibbs High School leaders said the college visit is an important one for all the students.

"It's incredibly important to know that the kids can leave high school right away and they have their post-secondary pathway already made out for them," said Business-Economic-Technology Assistant Principal Ija Hawethorne.
