The battle over the Iowa caucuses continues.  With the caucuses less than a week away, presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle continue debating the issues.  It’s all in an effort to make the case to the American people they’re the ones that can lead their political party to victory.

During the Jan. 17 Democratic presidential debate, the issue of health care and the Affordable Care Act came up.  At the time, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said, "I helped write" the ACA.

PolitiFact Florida heard the claim and gave it a MOSTLY FALSE rating on the Truth-O-Meter.

PolitiFact writer Joshua Gillin said Senator Sanders had his own health care bill that would have created a single-payer system, but it was pushed aside for the legislation that then became the Affordable Care Act.  In any case, Sanders didn’t exactly support the ACA.

“Sanders really was pretty cagey in his support for this.  He did not come out in full-throated support, and really, kind of, kept it down to the wire there,” Gillin said.

Gillin went on to say Sanders did get a provision inserted that would give $11 billion to community health centers.

For that, Sanders’ claim received a MOSTLY FALSE rating.
