The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is asking for the public's help in caring for the growing number of sea turtles now in their care due to continuing cold temperatures in the Bay Area.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the CMA took in 23 additional cold-stunned sea turtles. Last month, they took in nearly 30 cold-stunned sea turtles over a single weekend.

In total, the CMA's turtle department and stranding team have rescued and treated 69 live sea turtles this year.

Most of the turtles coming into CMA's hospital also suffer from the fibropapilloma virus. The virus causes large lesions to form on the turtles' eyes, flippers, and other parts of their bodies, hampering swimming, vision, and escape from predators.

CMA is asking for donations to help them afford the cost of additional supplies to help them continue to treat the turtles as they come in.
