The Hillsborough County Commission voted unanimously to oppose fracking legislation making its way through Tallahassee.

The commissioners voted on a resolution that opposed the controversial provisions of Senate Bill 318 and HB 191.

Those include a provision that would preempt the ability of local governments to regulate fracking and would allow companies to refuse to disclose the chemicals used in the fracking process that are deemed trade secrets.

Hillsborough County joins 64 cities and counties in Florida that have passed resolutions or ordinances opposing SB 318.

Sen. Tom Lee, whose district lies in Hillsborough County, is the chair of the Appropriations Committee, and he will decide whether or not to hear SB 318 next.

Versions of both bills have already passed through several committees.
