A man was killed Wednesday evening after he was struck by a car in Gulfport.
Authorities say the fatal accident occurred on the 5400 block of Gulfport Boulevard, just east of Beach Boulevard. Jackie Lewis, 74, was crossing the street when he was struck by the car driven by Sharon O'Dell, 86, of St. Petersburg.
Lewis was crossing near the middle of the block. He was hit by O'Dell's car while in the curb lane.
Lewis suffered significant injuries from the impact. Emergency Services pronounced him dead at the scene at 6:51 p.m.
The investigation continues.
At this time, deputies say neither impairment nor speed were factors in the crash.
