Citrus County now has its first YMCA. The doors opened just before noon Sunday.

  • After a year of construction, the county’s first YMCA opened Sunday
  • The Y offers a wellness center, pools, ping pong and much more
  • The new Y is located on 4127 W. Norvell Bryant Hwy. (County Road 486) in Lecanto

"I think it's really awesome. It's a really family-oriented place,” said Alyssa Marchione, new member.

Marchione didn't waste any time trying out the new workout equipment. She plans on spending a lot of time here before she heads to college in the fall.

"I need something to do in my spare time,” she said.

The new Y has been in the works for a while. There's still some landscaping work to do outside but construction only took a year. There's a wellness center, pools, ping pong and much more.

"It's really a welcoming environment for people of all ages,” said Joanna Castle, executive director.

Castle said there is something for everyone here. It's a great place to come and get healthy.

"This is just an amazing opportunity for our county. There is nothing like the Y in Citrus,” she said.

A lot of people joined before the Y even opened and others got right to work filling out an application when they walked through the door.
