The Florida Highway Patrol says so far its investigation of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian has revealed the pedestrian was laying on the road when he was struck by a car Saturday.

According to the FHP, the accident happened at 5:21 a.m. Saturday in Homosassa Springs.

  • Incident occurred at 5:21 a.m. near W. Grover Cleveland Boulevard and S. Missouri Drive
  • Pedestrian was laying on the road in the westbound travel lane of W. Grover Cleveland Boulevard when he was struck

Investigators say the pedestrian -- Robert Brooks, 32 -- was laying in the westbound travel lane of W. Grover Cleveland Boulevard when he was struck. The driver of the car, Skyler McKeown, 19, was reportedly unable to see or observe Brooks laying in the roadway.

Brooks died at the scene of the incident. Neither McKeown nor his passenger, Trevor Clark, 18, were injured in the incident.

No charges have been filed and no official cause of death has been determined.
