A Pinellas judge denied Gawker's request for a new trial and upheld the $140 million in damages an earlier jury awarded Hulk Hogan.

The former wrestler, whose real name is Terry Bollea, showed up at the St. Petersburg Courthouse today for the hearing.

In March, a jury found Gawker guilty of violating Bollea's privacy when it published a video showing Bollea having sex with the wife of Bubba Clem, a.k.a. "Bubba the Love Sponge," at the time Bollea's best friend.

Bollea says Clem secretly recorded the video. He settled with the radio host for $5,000.

In court Wednesday, Gawker argued the jury acted with prejudice in awarding Bollea $140 million, and asked the judge to reduce the amount.

Bollea's attorney, Shane Vogt, drew a different conclusion from the amount the jury decided to award.

"What this jury did was they put an enormous value on privacy," said Vogt. "For the first time a jury did that."

The judge denied Gawker's request for a new trial, and upheld the jury's award.

Gawker plans to appeal the case.
