Tampa Police raided a Spice lab on Tuesday, confiscating more than $500,000 worth of the drug.

  • Investigators found 20,000 packages of Spice ready for sale
  • No arrests made in connection with the raid

Officials say investigators, acting on a search warrant, entered the storage facility containing the lab and found more than 20,000 packages of Spice, also known as "synthetic marijuana," ready for sale. They also found 250-300 pounds of the green, leafy substance used in Spice, as well as chemicals, flavoring agents, and equipment used to make the drug.

"Getting this amount of Spice off the streets is a huge win for us,'' said Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward. "On both sides of Tampa Bay we have seen far too many cases of dangerous or deadly consequences related to Spice. The best way to have an impact is to stop Spice at the source, and that's what we've done."

Spice has been attributed to several deaths and serious injuries in the Bay area, as well as "bizarre and dangerous behavior," according to police. In the last two months, Tampa Police has responded to more than 300 incidents believed to be related to Spice.

Police investigators are working with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration in investigating the Spice lab. No arrests have been made in connection with the Spice seized in the raid, and officials did not disclose the location of the storage facility, as the case is still under investigation.
