A man is in critical condition after police found him in a field in Tarpon Springs suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to the Tarpon Springs Police Department, an officer was on patrol in the area of Lime Street and Walton Avenue at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday when he heard three gunshots coming from a location a couple of blocks west.

When the officer arrived in the area of Lime Street and Grosse Avenue, he was flagged down by a resident who had also heard the gunshots and was in the process of calling police, the report said.

The resident pointed to an open field across from 322 E. Lime St. and told the officer someone was in the field.

The officer found the victim, a man in his early 20s, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The man was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was last listed as being in critical condition.

Police say the victim, who has not been identified, was unable to provide any information regarding the shooting due to his injuries.

Police say they have no witnesses to the shooting, the motive is unknown and they have no suspects at this time.
