Police say two masked men robbed a Publix Super Market at gunpoint Wednesday night in Plant City.

According to the Plant City Police Department, approximately 15 minutes after the store’s associates closed for the evening, two men armed with handguns and wearing stocking masks and gloves forced open the front doors to the Publix located at 2015 Thonotosassa Road in Plant City.

Once inside, one of the armed suspects held the employees off while the other suspect forced an employee into the money vault.The suspects obtained cash, then fled in what was described as a dark colored van, possibly a late model Honda Odyssey.

According to Brian S. West, Publix Super Market's media and community relations manager, the company is just grateful no one was injured.

"We are working with the Plant City Police Department as they conduct their investigation," he said. "Fortunately, none of our customers or associates were injured, but these types of events can be emotional for everyone involved."

The suspects are both believed to be black males.

One suspect was described as being approximately 6-feet tall and 250 pounds, and was wearing what appeared to be a black leopard hoodie with a red logo on the left sleeve, dark colored pants and a ball cap with a red bill.

The second suspect was described as being 6-foot-3, 170 pounds and was wearing a dark colored hoodie and light colored pants.
