A driver is facing several charges in a hit-and-run involving a Tampa police officer Wednesday afternoon.

According to Tampa Police, the crash happened at the intersection of N. 34th Street at E. 28th Avenue.

Police say a driver ran a stop sign and was struck by the officer's police vehicle.

The officer suffered minor injuries in the crash but was still able to chase down and capture the driver of the vehicle after he exited the wrecked vehicle and fled on foot.

Police say the driver was found to have a significant quantity of crack cocaine, unknown type pills, and marijuana on his person. A stolen firearm was also discovered in the vehicle.
