"We had to go to a hotel, buy food to eat, go to the shelter and we had to spend money on batteries and candles because we had no power," said Melissa Capula, who rents a mobile home at the park. "Then I think the next day the water went off for a little bit because of the storm."

The Salvation Army, which was on site to serve meals earlier this month after the neighborhood experienced significant flooding and residents faced loss of power in their homes, continues to provide help.

A coalition of human service agencies are coming together to help residents recover. The group includes the Salvation Army, Pinellas County Human Services, Hispanic Outreach center, Juvenile Welfare Board, Personal Enrichment Through Mental Health, Pinellas County Community Development and Catholic Charities.

"There was a big response, a big reception and people were receiving assistance where needed," said Kevin Chinault with the Salvation Army.

More than $17,000 in vouchers for The Salvation Army’s Family Stores were distributed to residents for purchase of clothing, household items, and furniture.

"The first time we were out there, there was a lot of water everywhere but Wednesday night the water had receded, power is back on but people's homes were damaged and people were in need," said Chinault.

Capula said she's worried about more flooding in the future, so she's looking for a new place to live.

'I'm trying to move away from here, trying to get help from the state and move to a different area, " said Capula, who was told she qualifies for relocation assistance.

The Salvation Army says Chick-fil-A, located at 10075 Ulmerton Road in Largo, provided 100 Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches to be served to their neighbors in need. In total, 125 meals and 285 drinks were distributed out of The Salvation Army’s mobile kitchen.

Mariner's Cove Mobile Home Park in Largo was under a voluntary evacuation during the storm. Firefighters and police assisted residents via boat due to the flooding.
