A 27-year-old man died early Friday morning after being involved in a motorcycle crash in downtown Sarasota.

At about 1:46 a.m., Sarasota Police officers responded to the crash on Main Street and Orange Avenue.

According to their reports, Aleksandr Vasilevskiy was traveling eastbound on Main Street and failed to negotiate the roundabout at Orange. Vasilevskiy struck the roundabout and was ejected from his motorcycle. The intersection was closed for the next few hours.

Speed is thought to be a factor in the crash, but it still isn't known whether drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.

Police say Vasilevskiy was originally from Alaska.
