The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is offering no-cost HIV testing on Monday, June 27.

The event will run from 8 a.m. — 5 p.m. at all five Pinellas County locations. The promotion is a part of the DOH’s National HIV Testing Day awareness program.

"HIV testing should be a regular part of everybody's healthcare routine" stated Dr. Ulyee Choe, the Pinellas County director for the DOH. "Knowing your status is important to prevent spreading HIV and to begin life-saving treatment sooner."

HIV:

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. If left untreated, HIV can lead to the disease AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Unlike some other viruses, the human body can't get rid of HIV completely. But with treatment, a HIV infection can be managed, reducing the chance of progression.
