Residents living alongside Pinellas County’s Tampa Bay coastline are still dealing with substantial flooding caused by the 24 hours of rain surrounding Tropical Storm Colin’s landfall.

  • Flooding persists throughout greater Shore Acres area, St. Pete
  • Motorists continue to get stuck in standing water
  • Homeowners are reminding drivers it’s a 'No Wake' zone

Monday evening commuters were met with road closures, and 'No Wake’ signs generally reserved for boaters were posted on streets throughout Snell Isle, Venetian Isles and Shore Acres. On Tuesday morning, a night of heavy rains and flash flood advisories made the situation even worse.

“It may be a little worse,” said Nick Routh, who moved to the neighborhood in 1989. “It seems to be wider spread, but not quite as deep.”

Routh was driving on Overlook Drive around noon Tuesday when he saw a broken-down motorist in the middle of the flooded road. A pedestrian had already given the car a push, and he decided to lend a hand, too.

“She might have driven through a little too fast,” Routh said. “You can take water in that way."

Routh gave advice to neighbors about driving in the flood waters.

“I had a neighbor I ran into this morning who drives an Audi, and he asked, ‘Well, what do you think?’ and I said ‘You just don’t have enough ground clearance, I don’t think,'" Routh said. "I usually judge by the running board. If the water is to the running board, I don’t go any further."
