Some Hernando County drivers are still dealing with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Colin. In Hernando Beach, part of Osowaw Boulevard is closed to traffic even though the storm is long gone.

  • Osowaw Blvd in Hernando Beach is closed
  • Tropical Storm Colin left significant damages behind
  • Officials say it could be a week or two until it reopens

County leaders say a culvert along Osowaw was damaged when Colin rolled in, covering part of the road with water from the Gulf. The plan now is to start repairs in the next few days.

Roger Gabbey is hoping the work doesn't take long.

“This is a nice road to ride through, [to] stay off 19, but they have problems here,” he said. “What are you going to do?"

County leaders are hoping Osowaw will be open in one or two weeks if everything goes according to plan.

It is unclear how bad the damage actually is. Crews will know more once work gets underway.

The alternate route for now is U.S. 19 until the road work is complete.
