The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is honoring the state's park service today in Lake County.
Florida is the only system in the nation to win three Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park Recreation Management.
According to the DEP, no other system has won two Gold Medal awards and systems are not allowed to apply for the award within five years of receiving a Gold Medal.
The award was based on the agency’s ability to address needs of those it services through citizens, staff and elected officials.
A ceremony to celebrate the award will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Lake Louisa State Park, located at 7305 U.S. Highway 27.
