One of the men arrested for the execution-style deaths of two Orange County teens turned down a plea deal. The trial will now go forward.

The state had offered lesser charges and a 30-year sentence to Hector Rodriguez. But at the last minute, Rodriguez backed away from the deal, and even tried to have his public defenders thrown off the case.

The judge ultimately decided Rodriguez would keep the attorneys.

"Both councils are skilled trial attorneys who've handled homicides, and are more than able to handle Mr. Rodriguez," said judge Alan Apte.

Rodriguez is accused of murder and kidnapping in the deaths of Nicholas Presha and Jeremy Stewart. The boys' burning bodies were found along the Cady Way Trail in Winter Park.

Investigators say Rodriguez and another man, Jesse Davis, murdered Presha and Stewart in April 2012. Investigators say Presha and Stewart were trying to sell stolen guns.

Rodriguez and Davis originally pleaded not guilty. Then Davis changed his plea, and is now serving a life sentence.
