The City of New Smyrna Beach has a big development under construction and city leaders say it's the biggest project of its kind in at least 20 years.

Two Volusia County brothers are building a brand new marina with a fish store, restaurant and Tiki bar and 21 single-family homes right on the New Smyrna Beach Intracoastal Waterway. It is simply called: New Smyrna Marina.

The marina opened in April and construction continues on the property. City leaders are excited about the big economic boost the new marina will bring to the county. They are expecting lots of tourism dollars to come in through the marina.

The two brothers from Daytona Beach, Tim and Todd Phillips, bought the land and started with the marina but the plans really became a hobby. The brothers added a fish store, again keeping it simple: The Fishing Store, then a restaurant and tiki bar: Outriggers Tiki Bar and Grill. They are now building 21 "Key West" style single-family homes right on the water. The housing development is being called The Village at New Smyrna Marina.

According to the property manager's website, the homes begin from the $400,000s. They will be offered in two cottage styles. One with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The larger version will have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The website also highlights additional features such as gourmet kitchens, energy conservation features and lavish interior features and upgrades.

Ian Carrey, manager of Outriggers Tiki Bar and Grill, said residents in New Smyrna Beach are looking forward to the marina.

"People are really excited," Carrey said. "It's really refreshing. Lots of people are coming here and see what we're doing. Even other people from other bars, restaurants and home communities really excited for what we're doing and think it will help them too and I think they're right."

Samantha Bishop from the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce said the New Smyrna Marina is going to bring a boost to other businesses.

“We have a lot of intracoastal traffic. Big luxury boats that come up and down our intracoastal and a lot of times they just breeze right through Southeast Volusia because we don’t really have a place to stay. So with that being right there on the corner, close to our city marina and downtown areas, we’re really looking forward to the additional foot traffic this will help with our businesses and restaurants,” Bishop said.

The remaining businesses and homes will open in the next few months.

According to its website, when complete, The Village at New Smyrna Marina will feature:

  • Full Service Marina - Gas and Diesel (Fuel dispensed directly at each slip)
  • 31 Deep Water Boat Slips with amenities
  • 21 Key West Style Cottages
  • 21 Dry Storage Rackominiums
  • Climate Controlled Storage Units
  • Private Community Pool

Once it is all up and running, at least 100 jobs will be created.
