Attorney General Pam Bondi wants to end the same-sex marriage debate once and for all in Florida.

Bondi filed a documents Monday, asking the Third District Court of Appeals to allow the Florida Supreme Court to decide the case.

"The sole issue on appeal is whether the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution requires states to allow same-sex marriage," Bondi wrote.

Bondi specifically talks about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision not to take up the same-sex marriage debate, saying had there been a decision it would have ended all the cases.

Bondi said that since there are cases in multiple districts, the Florida Supreme Court should now take up the issue for the state. She asked the appeals court for what's called a passthrough.

A court in Miami ruled the statewide ban unconstitutional, but Bondi appealed that decision. Judges in several counties have also struck down the ban.

In 2008 Floridians voted to ban same-sex marriage in the Florida constitution. However, in an exclusive Florida Decides Poll last September, we found voters were split on whether to overturn the marriage ban.
