A swimming advisory is in effect for a portion of Volusia County beaches for high bacterial levels.

The Florida Department of Health issued the advisory Monday for the Main Street, International Speedway Boulevard and Silver Beach Avenue areas.

“We typically see elevated bacteria levels during this time of year due to increased migratory bird populations,” said Florida Department of Health in Volusia County Director Dr. Bonnie Sorensen.

Swimming is not recommended in these areas.

Crews will continue to test water samples to determine when the advisory can be lifted.
