When you're sick, dragging yourself out of bed and to the doctor's office is no easy task; but times have changed, and technology will now bring the doctor to you.

In the 1930s house calls accounted for 40 percent of medical visits, but by the 1980s, they accounted for only 1 percent of visits.

Now technology is helping return modern medicine to it's roots -- the house call.

Medicast and Pager are just two of the "reach-a-doc" smartphone apps available to consumers. With both services, you can sign up and get a doctor to come to your home if you or a loved one is feeling sick.

This new high-tech health care is being called "telemedicine."

But the technology does have limits; house calls may work for minor illnesses, cuts or sprains; but serious medical symptoms such as chest pain or a head injury will still require a trip to the emergency room.
