An Orange County judge has denied bond for the man charged with murdering 16-year-old Alexandria Chery.

Sanel Saint Simon, 43, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Thursday.

He is accused of killing Chery, who was reported missing July 28.

Her disappearance prompted a massive search effort, ultimately leading to the discovery of her body three days later on Osceola Polk Line Road near Reunion Aug. 1.

Saint Simon has been behind bars since July 29, charged with attempting to destroy evidence and lying to law enforcement.

This week, a grand jury indicted him for first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

Chery's uncle Ray Joseph said the teen’s family hopes the murder indictment brings justice.

"Our hope is that (Saint Simon) gets convicted for the crime and he get put away for the rest of his life,” Joseph said.

A judge could determine if bond will be set for Saint Simon’s new charges.

He could face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.
