The frightening 911 call that Don Spirit made moments after he shot and killed his daughter and six grandchildren in Bell last week was released Tuesday by the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office.

The phone call begins with Spirit telling the 911 dispatcher that he just shot his daughter and six grandchildren.

Spirit continues: "And I'll be sitting on my step. And when you get here, I'm going to shoot myself."

Sprit, 51, shot and killed his daughter, 28-year-old Sarah Spirit, and six children: Kaleb, 11; Kylie, 9; Johnathon Kuhlmann, 8; Destiny 5; Brandon 4; and 3-month-old Alanna Stewart.

When deputies arrived to the scene, they found all seven victims shot to death. Deputies confronted Spirit, and a brief verbal exchange took place.

Spirit then killed himself.

All of the children's bodies were located in various locations inside the residence, according to the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The bodies of the two adults were found outside the residence in separate locations on the property. The final autopsy will not be completed for several weeks, officials said.

Authorities said Spirit used a .45-caliber handgun in the murder-suicide.

The investigation revealed that Don Spirit was a convicted felon and federal, state and local law enforcement authorities are investigating how he obtained the firearm.

The Department of Children and Families has revealed they were investigating Spirit for two weeks before the murder-suicide.

Spirit also served time in prison several years ago for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after killing his 8-year-old son in an accidental shooting in 2001 in Osceola County.
