The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting in a Spring Hill subdivision.
Deputies said they were responding to a domestic situation at a home Braemere Drive in the Sterling Hills subdivision. Deputies said a woman had been seriously hurt by someone else in the home.
Deputies said the suspect was still in the home when they arrived, and they heard at least one shot coming from inside. The situation then got worse, deputies said, when the man left the house armed with a long gun.
When the situation became "threatening," deputies said they had to use force.
The suspect was shot and airlifted to an area trauma center. His condition is unknown.
