Two tech giants are bringing a total of 280 new jobs to the Space Coast, Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday.

The governor, attending the 51st International Paris Air Show in France, made the following jobs announcements:

  • Lockheed Martin is adding 130 new jobs in Cape Canaveral.
  • Embraer is adding 150 new jobs in Brevard County.

The 130 new positions at Lockheed Martin will support the Navy's Triden II D5 Fleet Ballistic Missile program at the company's Cape Canaveral facility.

"These 130 new jobs mean Florida families will have even more opportunity to get a great job," Scott said. "We're here in Paris to make sure aerospace and defense companies from around the world know Florida is the best state in the U.S. for job creation."

Lockheed Martin already employs more than 500 people at Cape Canaveral to support the Navy's submarine-based strategic deterrent.

"Ramping up our operations at Cape Canaveral maintains cost effective support of the program and further improves our responsiveness to the missile testing and deployment needs of U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs," said Mathew Joyce, Lockheed Martin's vice president of Fleet Ballistic Missile programs.

Embraer's 150 new jobs include a $3.5 million investment in a new manufacturing facility on the Space Coast.

"By removing the sales tax on manufacturing equipment last year, we are signaling to businesses across the world that Florida has a competitive advantage over other locations, and companies like Embraer know that our state is the best place to grow and create jobs," Scott added.

Embraer opened an engineering center in Melbourne in 2014, and broke ground on an assembly facility to build its Legacy aircraft. Both facilities have already added a total of 800 jobs on the Space Coast.

"Our partnership with the state of Florida has been fundamental to our ability to serve the customers in our largest market," said Embraer President and CEO Frederico Curado. "We are proud to further that legacy with the addition of Embraer Aero Seating Technologies, a company dedicated to the design, development and production of luxury aircraft seating solutions."
