The U.S. Women’s World Cup win was exciting for millions to watch and the historic accomplishment is inspiring an entire generation of soccer players.

“It was spectacular. It’s a great experience to see them do 5-2 and that they can put new history in the books,” said Amanda Hartmann, an Orlando City Youth Soccer player.

Sylvan Lake Park in Sanford is the official training site of Orlando City Soccer and for many years it has served as the practice facility for the U.S. Women’s National Team. It’s also where up and coming players are working to perfect their skills.

“It inspires me because in the near future I hope to be on the team, so the motivation that they won this time, maybe it will make me work harder to get better,” said Krystal Torres, an Orlando City Youth Soccer player.

Orlando City Youth Soccer player Abby Mathews said she looks up to 23-year-old soccer player Julie Johnston, who anchors USA’s defense.

“I look up to Julie Johnston because I play her position, and the way she plays is aggressive and she’s a beast. And that’s what I look up to,” said Mathews.

But these young players know it will take a lot of hard work to follow in the U.S. National team’s footsteps.

“It made me realize that the more effort you put in, the more rewards you get,” said Hartmann.

It’s possible these young women might not have to leave home to play pro. News 13 asked officials with Orlando City Soccer about the possibility of a women’s pro team in Orlando.

Orlando City Soccer released a statement Monday saying:

“Orlando City congratulates the US Women’s National Team in capturing their third FIFA WWC championship. This team captured the hearts and attention of the sporting public over the past month and has further advanced the popularity of soccer in North America. Orlando has proven itself to be the ‘Soccer Capital of the South’ with tremendous fan support for MLS team and local ratings for televised soccer very high. Additionally, Orlando City boasts one of the nation’s most competitive girl’s youth clubs featuring high-performing teams in the prestigious ECNL. Considering the massive support for top-level soccer in Central Florida, Orlando City will continue to evaluate all opportunities to bring the highest levels of the sport to the market in the future.”
