About a dozen residents peppered the sidewalk along Little Road near Massachusetts Avenue Saturday afternoon. They held up signs advocating against the Iran nuclear deal.

These folks don’t want the United States to cut a deal with Iran. The deal would lift economic sanctions against the country when Iran scales back its nuclear development program. President Obama supports the deal and said it’s critical for peace.

“The choice we face is ultimately diplomacy or some sort of war,” Obama said earlier this month.

Representative Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor, joined the residents Saturday. He spoke out against the deal, saying he doesn’t think it’s in the best interest of the United States or its allies.

He encouraged others  to speak their mind.

“This is a republic,” Bilirakis said. “These elected representatives need to be held accountable, they need to hear from you.”

Congress will vote on the deal with the U.S., five other world powers and Iran next month.
