Kraft is recalling 36,000 cases of its individually wrapped cheese singles because part of the wrapper could become a choking hazard.

The voluntary recall involves the 3- and 4-pound boxes of American and White American slices of cheese, the company said.

The affected cheeses of the "best when used by" date between Dec. 29, 2015, and Jan. 4, 2016.

Kraft said the thin strip of packaging film could stick to cheese slices even after the wrappers have been removed.

The affected packages were distributed in the United States, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.

Kraft said the packages of cheese can be returned to the stores where they were bought for an exchange or a refund.
