Hewlett-Packard has announced a voluntary recall on a number of batteries that were shipped with some of its laptops because of overheating issues.

The battery packs can overheat and catch fire or pose a burn risk, the company said.

The recall affects lithium-ion batteries with Panasonic cells that were shipped with certain HP notebook computers, including HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario and HP Pavilion.

The batteries were also sold as replacements between March 2013 and August 2015.

HP has received several reports of the battery packs melting or charring.

Customers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled batteries and remove them from laptops.
