New day in Tampa Bay, thankfully.

Attending the Tampa Bay Lightning’s first day of camp almost gave you the feel like it was a new franchise just starting out.

There was a whole bunch of young players getting their pictures and signing paperwork and hoping they’ll be a part of something special.

It’s great to watch a franchise go from worst to first. Heck, we say it in the Rays not that long ago.

But to expect the Lightning to go far in the playoffs would be a bit much. I asked Bolts forward Ryan Malone if it’s possible to see this team make the playoffs? “Yeah, why not?,” said Malone. “It’s been done before. We all have to be on the same page.”

Superstar Steven Stamkos takes it a step forward saying he doesn’t believe this team is rebuilding. Stamkos says they’ve got a enough of a nucleus of veterans, that know what it will take, so Stamkos is expecting to have success, that’s team success this season

On Vinny Lecavalier off to Philly? “You keep expecting him to walk in the door,” said Stamkos, adding though they’ve got to move on.

Asked Marty St. Louis how he was feeling? “Feel good,” said Marty smiling. Then asked me how I felt. I said good.

I’d feel a lot better if we had some teams to cover here in the Bay Area in the post season. Rays? Bucs? Lightning?

What do you think?
