The Springstead Eagles accomplished a critical district upset over the Mitchell Mustangs in a back-and-forth, five-set thriller.

The Mustangs were plagued by service errors in the first set, but rebounded in sets two and three behind junior middle blocker Bailey Sassatelli (14 Kills, 5 Blocks), along with freshmen Jessie Mooney (8 Kills, 1 Ace) and Morgin Tew (9 Kills, 3 Blocks, 1 Ace).

The final three sets were so close that it came down to the wire in each. With both teams trading jabs, there was no telling who would come out on top.

But the Eagles kept the match alive, when BHSN player of the game Cailla Strobel led the charge in two straight elimination sets. Strobel, a senior middle blocker, finished the night with 11 Kills, 6 Blocks, and 2 Aces.

Both teams now have one loss in the district, and if Springstead can take down Osceola on Thursday, the number one seed in the district could come down to a coin-flip between Mitchell and Springstead.

But this epic battle proved that both of these teams are fit for the post-season, no matter who their opponent may be.
