The East Lake girls swim team partied like it was 1985.

No Pinellas County girls team had won an overall team title since then when Seminole won it all. The Eagles girls ended that long drought with a dominating performance at the Class 4A Swimming and Diving Championships.

East Lake set a tone early, winning the first event, the 200 medley relay for the second-straight year. They made it a clean sweep, also claiming the 200 free and 400 free relays.

Individually, Sydney Pickrem and Lexy Aitchison each won two gold medals. Pickrem claimed the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, while Aitchison won the 200 freestyle and 500 free.

They weren’t the only two-time winners. Newsome’s Maddie Hess won two individual gold for the second-consecutive year. Hess was the fastest woman in the pool Friday night, winning the 50 and 100 free events.

Oviedo’s Noah Hensley defended his 100 butterfly title and also claimed the 200 free.

The boys relays were split up with Sanford Seminole winning the 200 medley, Wellington winning the 200 free and Countryside claiming the final gold of the evening, the 400 free relay.

That first place finish helped the Cougars finish second overall. East Lake’s boys were third and Sarasota Riverview won the overall team title.

Other area individual winners: Grant Sanders, East Lake, 200 IM; Katie Vasiloff, Durant, 100 butterfly; Zachary Poti, Timber Creek, 100 backstroke.

Other area team finishes of note: Olympia girls claimed the runner-up spot and Newsome was fourth, Palm Harbor University fifth and Plant sixth. The Plant’s boys finished sixth and got a lot of points from their divers – Dylan Power, who won the silver in the one meter diving competition ,and Reid Fleming (fourth) and Max Jenkins (fifth).

West Orange’s Rileigh Knox won the silver in the one-meter diving and Olympia’s Makayla Robillard claimed the bronze.
