A Polk County softball staple will hang up his cleats at the end of the season.
Bartow's Glenn Rutenbar announced he will retire at the end of the softball season. The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the playoffs after winning the Class 7A-District 6 title. They will play St. Cloud in the regional quarterfinals on Thursday.
Rutenbar has been the only coach Bartow's softball program has ever known. He began his career there in 1987.
In his 28 years at the helm, the Yellow Jackets have won seven state titles and finished as the state runner up six times. Only Naples has more state titles (10).
