John Henson made many memories during his time with the Sickles High basketball team.

On Saturday, he helped hundreds of kids create memories of their own.

Henson participated in the Tampa Bay Youth Sports Expo at the Tampa Convention Center. The former Sickles star now with the Milwaukee Bucks held three instructional clinics, filled with drills and fun.

Not many high school students get to go one-on-one with an NBA star, but Robinson High senior Matthew Hall did.

“It was so surreal,” Hall said. "I dreamt of it, but never thought it could really come true, but I guess today is my day."

Proceeds from Henson’s appearance benefited the Up2Us organization, which helps place youth coaches in mentors in various cities throughout the country. The Skills Center also benefited from Saturday's festivities.

But the kids were the biggest benefactors.

The expo featured interactive zones with the Tampa Bay Bucs, Lightning and Rays, giving kids an opportunity to try out a professional sport, while at the same time learning some valuable life skills as well.

“We want to make sure the kids come out and have a good time and learn how to play the sport the right way and really just take home some resources and knowledge about the game of sports,” expo director Ken Roberts said.
